Get to Know Laser Spine Institute's CEO - What Motivates Me to Come to Work?

During a recent conversation, I was asked, "What motivates you to come to work?" I thought that I would share my answers with you and also encourage you to think about this question and share your answers.

Love
I am motivated to come to work because I truly love what I do. I love building companies, helping patients and families get their lives back. An unexplainable sense of pride and accomplishment comes over me whenever patients tell me that Laser Spine Institute is the best medical facility they have ever visited. In addition to providing outstanding service to our patients, I have a strong passion for mentoring young employees and helping them to define and achieve their goals.

Fear
The thought of disappointing our patients and employees evokes a strong sense of fear. I am fully aware of the importance of the work we do and its impact on others. For those reasons, I instill and uphold the principle that each and every staff member is dedicated to nothing but the best. I promote the understanding that while we have the esteemed position as the leaders in minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery, our status is contingent upon our surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Responsibility
I am also motivated by an overwhelming sense of responsibility. Our employees and patients rely on my guidance and leadership. It is my duty to create and maintain the necessary conditions for my staff to achieve success, as well as to ensure patient satisfaction. The fear of disappointing reinforces this sense of responsibility, but my confidence in our proven abilities are extremely reassuring.

Self-Worth
Everyone loves to be needed and I am no different. It is very fulfilling to have people who believe in me, find value in my work, and trust me to help them in achieving their goals.

Work Ethic
My dad was a great man of modest means, who came from a generation that upheld the principle, "hard work leads to success." He is no longer here to guide me, but the principles he instilled continue to influence my decisions.  I always feel his presence, especially when I am facing difficult decisions.

Giving Back

Last, but by no means least, I am motivated by my duty to give back. Laser Spine Institute gave me my life back, so why wouldn't I want the same for others? I consider myself the luckiest man alive because many people have done a lot for me. I am extremely fortunate and grateful to have so many angels on my shoulder, and as such, I must reciprocate.

Dear Miah,
Thanks for your kind words! We are all grateful for the hospitality and exceptional service that you and your staff provide to our patients. Likewise, we look forward to a lasting partnership.

Dear Bill, I have had the

Dear Bill,
I have had the pleasure of working with Clay and Lynn over the past year. I represent several of our Marriott hotels here in Arizona and we have been fortunate to host many of your patients as our guests during 2009. It is incredible to see the physical changes from the guest's check-in to their day of departure. It is truly amazing what LSI is able to accomplish for these patients and it is a pleasure to hear their stories. I anticipate that we will continue to partner with Laser Spine and look forward to a long relationship.

Dear Tim,
I am happy to hear that your daughter's surgery was successful, but disappointed that the claims process has not proceeded satisfactorily. Please accept my sincere apology and rest assured that I will have the matter resolved ASAP. Would you mind providing your daughter's name, so that I can locate her file? You may email the information to billhorne2@laserspineinstitute.com. Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention.
Sincerely,
Bill Horne.

Bill, Our daughter had back

Bill,
Our daughter had back surgery in Scottdale in Dec, 08. Dr Weiss performed the surgery. Currently, she is pleased with the way her back has healed. Her major frustration is with the office staff. It would appear that no one knows what is going on. When dealing with insurance issues she get the major run around, eg Scottsdale says call Tampa, Tampa says she'll have to research her problem and take care of it on her own. And this comes after hours of phone tag, because no one at LSI answers the phone. This current issue is just another is a series of communications problems.
These types of issues certainly take the luster off of the glowing testimonials of LSI.
Tim

Dear Tina, I am sorry to hear

Dear Tina,
I am sorry to hear about your accident and disappointed about the impression you expressed. I reviewed you file and it appears that the issues to which you referred were discussed at some point, but perhaps not extensively. So, I would be happy to make arrangements for you to have a detailed discussion with a Patient Coordinator and our Consumer Finance Specialist. Thanks for writing.
Sincerely,
Bill Horne.

Hello Charlie, I appreciate

Hello Charlie,
I appreciate your kind words. That's absolutely right! I will always be grateful for the values my dad instilled and I can only strive to fulfill his expectations.
Sincerely,
Bill.

I have been in three car

I have been in three car accidents in three years. Two were by drunk drivers and one person just not paying attention and running into me. Due to this, I have back and neck injuries and bulging discs and arthritis to the spine. My last visit to my Dr. where I get injections to my back to control the pain, my Dr suggested that I may have to have back surgery as the injections are not working. The latest MRI shows that bulging is getting worse and traveling upward, not just out. I have been suffering in pain for several years, not being able to enjoy activities or sports with my children that I used to. Even going to the beach and having a wave crash on me causes extreme pain. My children state that my cabinet has more medication than a pharmacy. I have young grandchildren that I cannot pick up due to the pain.
I contacted LSI inquiring about surgery and costs and I was told it would cost me several thousands and that it's my problem to deal with my insurance company, that LSI wouldn't even consider me without me being able to front the money.
I read these other stories and hear of the insurance and working things out and I wonder why I wasn't given any consideration. I have not even sent my MRI's to be reviewed, all I did was inquire and I feel like I'm just some poor person they don't want to deal with. It seems from some of the stories that you are interested in doing whatever possible to help people, yet I did not get that type of treatment. Is there a real human with feelings that I can discuss my options with?
Tina

Hello Bill, We met last month

Hello Bill,
We met last month at the Jeld-Wen Tradition and I wanted to let you know that I was especially moved by Charlie Taylor's story. I was with a company that worked with Shasta and the last time I had seen Charlie(probably 2 or 3 years ago), he was in a back brace that went from his waist all the way up to his chest. The brace was enormous and Charlie was in obvious discomfort. Certainly, there is no denying the effect that LSI has had on him and is a great testament to your affirmations.
My belief is simple; as responsible and compassionate human beings,it is our civic responsibility to leave the world a better place and I try to incorporate that ideology into my workspace.
Thanks for sharing,
Charlie
