Be Gentle to Your Back with 5 Wellness Trends
Did you know that September is Pain Awareness Month? Perhaps not, but if you're suffering from back pain or neck pain due to a spinal condition, what better reminder to research different wellness trends that may be able to help ease your back pain?
There are a multitude of conservative treatments and wellness trends available that can be extremely effective in managing your pain, whether it's due to bone spurs, degenerative disc disease, foraminal stenosis, spinal arthritis, or any other degenerative spine condition. Here are just a few of the wellness trends you may be interested in checking out:
1. Light weight lifting and other low-impact exercise – When performed properly, gentle exercises and aerobics can be a great way to increase strength and flexibility and decrease pain in your back and neck. Just make sure to check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.
2. Proper alignment – Visiting a chiropractor may be a good way to restore the natural function of your spine and decrease your symptoms.
3. Shoes – Even something as simple as wearing the right footwear can make a big difference in your back pain. Be sure to wear shoes that fit properly, provide adequate cushion and support, and are designed for the shape of your feet.
4. Posture – Always maintain good posture, whether it's related to your office seating or when you're standing, walking, or even sleeping. At work, adjust your posture often by standing up, stretching, and taking quick breaks to walk around. These tips can keep your spine healthy and strong and prevent problems from flaring up.
5. Nutrition – Eating right and maintaining a proper body weight can reduce the pressure on your spine and keep it healthy (as well as your body as a whole).
In addition to these tips, holistic wellness – or the blend of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being – has become another popular wellness trend recently. By simultaneously focusing on the health of the mind, heart, and spirit, many have found success in reducing their back pain and other symptoms.
